Deputy President William Ruto has suspended all public rallies following President Uhuru Kenyatta's directives banning political gatherings.
Dr. Ruto noted that the coronavirus pandemic was surging in the country adding that the infection rate was becoming more serious.
"The Covid19 infection rates have become a serious source of concern making it necessary for GoK to take remedial measures to manage and contain the pandemic. With the President's announcement of containment measures I forthwith suspend all public engagement until further notice," his statement read.
DP Ruto on Friday was touring the Western Kenya region before President Kenyatta announced the ban among other measures to contain the spread of coronavirus.
"Cognizant of the propagation of Covid-19 within our borders has been fueled by large public and social gatherings today I direct that all forms of gatherings are prohibited for a period of 30 days effective midnight on this March 12, 2021," Kenyatta declared.

He directed that funeral and burial services of Covid-19 victims in the country be strictly conducted within 72 hours.
Uhuru also ordered that crematoria and funeral services be limited to a maximum of 100 attendees. Marriage and other union ceremonies are capped at 100 people.
The President was extended for an additional 60 days, meaning it will expire in May 2021.
