"We are calling not just for the resignation but for the arrest and the arraignment in court of the DIG within 24 hours of the issuance of this statement," read the statement in part.

Regarding the investigations, the opposition chiefs also demanded that the police produce the official complaint that was made by Lagat regarding the social media posts by Ojwang.

"There should have been a formal complaint and an arrest warrant. Kenyans want to know whether a formal complaint was filed by DIG Eliud Lagat - and if so, at which police station, and on what date and time the complaint was recorded," read the statement in part.

"We demand to know why Albert was moved from Mawego Police Station in Homa Bay to Central Police Station, and which officers accompanied him, including their names and ranks."

Additionally, the leaders demanded that the police release CCTV footage showing the time when Ojwang was at the police station.

"We also demand to know the whereabouts of the CCTV footage showing Albert being brought into and leaving the station," the leaders noted.
