Peter Ndegwa has responded to claims linking Safaricom to the arrest and subsequent death of Albert Ojwang.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa has dismissed allegations linking the telecommunications company to the arrest and subsequent death of Albert Ojwang.  

In a statement on Wednesday, June 11, Ndegwa expressed condolences to Ojwang's family while distancing the company from any involvement in the events that led to the teacher's death.

"Our attention has been drawn to disturbing news by a section of leaders linking Safaricom to the arrest of the late Albert Omondi Ojwang. On the onset, Safaricom wishes to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late Albert," he said.

Ndegwa denied any interaction between Safaricom and law enforcement agencies concerning Ojwang's arrest.

"We wish to state the following regarding the allegations. That at no point was there any contact between Safaricom and any security agency in investigating or arresting the late Albert.

"We became aware of his arrest through media reports. We are therefore concerned and disturbed by the remarks by Justin Muturi linking us to the unfortunate incident," he added.

With Ojwang's death sparking public outrage nationwide, Ndegwa called for calm and focus on the due process.

"Our ask to all Kenyans is to ignore any attempts to incite them and remain firm in demanding accountability through transparent investigations. We also ask our leaders to push for a credible, transparent, and timely investigation that will bring the perpetrators to justice and give the family and Kenyans the answers they are looking for," he concluded.

While addressing a presser earlier Wednesday, Muturi, alongside other opposition leaders, claimed that Safaricom was the facilitator in the tracing and abduction of Kenyans.

"We are aware that Safaricom is complicit and indeed a facilitator in the tracing and abductions of Kenyans who have ended up dead, like Albert Ojwang.

"We want to issue a direct warning that this amounts to aiding and abetting in the committing of these crimes against humanity, for which Kenyans will hold Safaricom responsible," he said.
