A police-led crackdown in Nairobi’s CBD has led to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of stolen electronic devices, as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle mobile phone theft syndicates.
In a statement on Saturday, June 14, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers executed an intelligence-led operation along Tsavo Street on Saturday, June 13, targeting suspected phone theft hotspots.
"During the operation, three suspects were arrested, and 75 mobile phones, seven computers, one microscope, and twenty Universal Flashing Interface (UFI) gadgets were recovered," the statement confirmed.
The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue; they are expected to be arraigned in court once the probe is concluded.

Authorities believe the seized devices were being used in illegal phone flashing and reprogramming activities, which are often linked to stolen phones.
"The National Police Service (NPS) warns the public against involvement in mobile phone theft syndicates and the illegal trade of flashing stolen phones, and advises them to avoid buying devices from unauthorised dealers," the statement added.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation in Mombasa County, a joint team from Kongowea Police Station and National Government Administration Officers raided the Makaburini area, resulting in the arrest of one suspect linked to drug-related activities.
"One suspect was arrested after being found in possession of several items, including at least 80 rolls of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa, two kitchen knives, and 10 gas lighters, among other items.
"This operation is part of a broader national effort to eliminate the drug menace, in collaboration with other government agencies and members of the public, who continue to play a key role by providing crucial information," the NPS stated.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as law enforcement agencies continue to tighten the noose on criminal networks in urban areas.
