Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro is in mourning following the death of his father, Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior, who passed away on Sunday, June 15.
The announcement came on Father’s Day, marking a saddening and emotional moment for the governor and his family.
In a heartfelt statement, Mung’aro expressed the deep sorrow he is experiencing while also acknowledging the support he has received during this difficult time.
“Today, on Father’s Day, I lost my father, Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior. It’s a deeply painful moment, but I’m truly grateful for the love, support, and prayers from family, friends, and all who’ve reached out," he said.
Mung'aro conveyed his appreciation for the comforting messages and gestures extended to him since the news of his father’s death broke.

This comes a day after the family of former Harambee Stars skipper Victor Wanyama announced the passing of their matriarch, Mildred Barasa.
Wanyama's elder brother, McDonald Mariga, broke the sad news.
Mariga, who is the vice president of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), announced via X that their mother had died on Saturday morning, June 14.
He did not disclose the cause of the death.
Mariga said their family had immediately embarked on the arrangements to lay their mother to rest, promising more details in due course.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, who left us peacefully this morning. We are currently making arrangements and will share more details soon! Thank you," Mariga posted.
