The Mbeere North seat became vacant after President William Ruto appointed Geoffrey Ruku to serve as the Public Service Cabinet Secretary.

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has unveiled Newton Kariuki as the Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) candidate for Mbeere North Constituency in the upcoming by-elections.

In a statement via X on Sunday, June 15, Muturi announced that he unveiled Kariuki during an event held at Kanyuombora Grounds in Embu County.

Muturi was joined by former Embu senator Lenny Kivuti, among other leaders from Embu County.

“After a spirit-filled service at ACK St. John’s Kanyuombora this morning, we proceeded to Kanyuombora Grounds for a momentous occasion. Together with Hon. Lenny Kivuti and a host of other leaders, I was proud to unveil Hon. Newton Kariuki (popularly known as Newton Karish) as the Democratic Party’s official candidate for the upcoming Mbeere North by-election. Karish is no stranger to service; his leadership in Mumenje speaks for itself,” said Muturi.

The former CS praised Kariuki, saying he is deeply rooted in the values of the Mbeere community and is committed to championing the aspirations of the Mbeere North constituents.

“Karish is a dedicated son of Mbeere, grounded in our values, and committed to championing the aspirations of our people.

“The journey ahead is clear, we must unite, organize, and deliver leadership that truly reflects the will of the people. The Democratic Party is ready, and Mbeere North is rising,” Muturi added.

Kariuki currently serves as the Member of County Assembly (MCA) of Muminji ward, in Embu County.

The Mbeere North seat became vacant after President William Ruto appointed Geoffrey Ruku to serve as the Public Service Cabinet Secretary following the dismissal of Muturi.

However, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is yet to announce the date for the by-election.
