Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has issued an appeal to Kenyans following the deaths of two youths in Kasarani.

In a statement after visiting the bereaved families on Monday, June 23, Passaris described the harrowing circumstances that have left two families in mourning.

“This morning, I visited two grieving families — Wanjiku Muchoki, mother of 18-year-old Abigael Winner Wanjiku, and Pastor Samuel Kungu, father of Joshua Steven Maina,” she said.

Passaris went on to reveal the shocking details of the incidents.

“Abigael was just 18. She was raped and brutally murdered, her body bearing multiple stab wounds. The following day, a peaceful demonstration demanding justice was infiltrated by goons who caused chaos and in the midst of it, police opened fire. Joshua was shot and killed," she added.

In an effort to seek justice for Abigael, Passaris announced a cash reward aimed at encouraging the public to come forward with crucial information.

“I am offering a Ksh100,000 reward for any credible information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators behind Abigael’s rape and murder. Please report to OCS Mwiki Police Station or DM me confidentially,” she urged.

According to Passaris, both postmortems are ongoing, with hopes that forensic findings will aid investigations into Joshua’s death.

“Both postmortems are underway. We hope the bullet recovered from Joshua’s body will identify the officer responsible. They must face law,” she stated.

Passaris also addressed the police, calling on them to uphold their duty with integrity and restraint.

“To the police: You are trained to protect, not provoke. To immobilise, not to kill. This is a call for accountability, not condemnation,” she said.

Passaris' remarks come amid growing concern over police conduct, especially during public demonstrations.
