The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has denied reports of clearing Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Eliud Lagat in the murder case of Albert Ojwang.
In response to reports that emerged on social media on Tuesday, June 24, IPOA stated that the reports did not come from it.
Reports on social media had claimed that the authority had determined that Lagat did not have a case to answer.
"IPOA says that Eliud Lagat has no case to answer?" Cyprian Nyakundi posted.
"No. IPOA has not issued such a statement," IPOA responded.

Lagat is a person of interest in the murder of Ojwang, as he filed a complaint against Ojwang, leading to his arrest.
After his arrest in Homa Bay, Ojwang was taken to Central Police Station, where he was assaulted and ultimately died.
According to James Mukhwana, an officer at Central Police Station, he was directed to organize for some inmates to beat up Ojwang.
"This is the truth of what happened. Ojwang’ was not meant to be killed but to be disciplined as per instructions of the OCS Talaam, who was under the instruction of DIG Lagat," Mukhwana alleged in his statement to IPOA.
"I am sorry for the death of Ojwang. May God help them to heal the loss. I know it is painful."
Consequently, Lagat was summoned by IPOA and interrogated by a technical team at the authority.
So far, only OCS Samson Talaam, James Mukhwana, Peter Kimani, John Ginge Gitau, Gin Ammitou Abwao, and Brian Mwaniki Njue. have been charged with murder.
