Politicians on Wednesday joined protestors in Nairobi CBD.

Politicians on Wednesday, June 25, joined protestors in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) to mark the first anniversary since the deadly 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa led a section of opposition leaders to lay wreaths along Parliament Road.

The leaders began by holding prayers at the Holy Family Basilica before walking to Parliament Road.

They were, however, not allowed to go past the police barricade along the Parliament Road.

The opposition leaders laid the flowers at the razor-sharp barbed wire barricade before going back.

Former Chief Justice David Maraga joined the protestors along Kimathi Street in Nairobi CBD. The former CJ was in the company of former MP Augustine Neto and his security detail.

The anti-riot police officers, however, lobbed teargas along Kimathi Street, forcing Maraga to take refuge at the Nation Center.

Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah joined the protestors near the GPO area along Kenyatta Avenue and marched with them as they honoured the youth who died during the June 2024 protests.

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, on the other hand, joined demonstrators along Moi Avenue. The ODM lawmaker was carried by the protestors shoulder high.

Kenyans returned to the streets in large numbers for the June 25 protests. Besides Nairobi CBD, the protests were witnessed in Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisii, Kajiado, Makueni, and Nyeri counties.

The youth also came out in the counties of Uasin Gishu, Embu, Machakos, and Nyandarua.
