Twenty-five individuals arrested in connection with the destruction of public property during protests in Kikuyu on Wednesday, June 25, will remain in custody for 14 days as detectives continue their investigations.
In a statement on Friday, June 27, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the protests turned chaotic when protesters torched the Kikuyu Law Courts, the Kikuyu Sub-County offices, and several government vehicles, tractors, and tuk-tuks.
In the wake of the chaos, DCI launched investigations which led to the arrest of the 25 suspects who were arraigned in court on Friday.
“As a result, 25 suspects have been arrested and arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court at the Ruiru Law Courts. Detectives obtained a 14-day custodial order to complete their investigations," the statement read.

In the course of the probe, law enforcement officers managed to recover several items looted during the protests.
“Additionally, two steel windows, a steel door, and a water tank, all stolen from the County Government's physical planning offices during the protests, were recovered in a bush in the Mai-ii-hii and Kabete areas,” the DCI added.
Meanwhile, efforts to track down other individuals involved in the destruction are still underway, with detectives pursuing additional leads.
The police have also issued a stern warning to the public ahead of any future demonstrations.
“The National Police Service urges members of the public to exercise restraint and avoid engaging in destructive behaviour during protests, as such actions will be met with the full force of the law," the statement concluded.
