The fire broke out at around 2 am on Sunday.

Traders in Kisii County are counting losses after a fire razed several stalls at the Marikiti market on Sunday, June 29, morning.

The inferno broke out at around 2 AM on Sunday and spread rapidly through the market, burning stalls and shops to ashes.

Traders who rushed to the Marikiti market attempted to extinguish the fire, but their efforts were futile.

Photos and videos of the aftermath seen by nairobileo.co.ke showed the market completely gutted, with corrugated iron sheets and charred debris scattered across the ground.

Preliminary reports indicate that no fire engine was dispatched by the Kisii county government to put out the fire.

The cause of the morning fire in the market is yet to be established.

The incident comes weeks after a fire erupted at a four-story building in the Stage 2 area of Congo, Kawangware, Nairobi County.

The inferno which broke out around 11 P.M. on June 14, was suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault.

The fire began spreading rapidly, with thick black smoke engulfing the air. However, fire engines were deployed to help contain the inferno from spreading.

One person was killed while at least four others sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
