In their account, the police established that the trailer, a Scania, which was en route to Mai Mahiu, veered off its lane to ram into the oncoming Toyota vehicles, a Prado TX and G-Touring.
The deceased inspector was behind the wheel of the Prado TX; he died at the scene.
On impact, Inspector Kipchumba's vehicle hit the G-Touring that was trailing him.
At least six people sustained injuries in the accident.
The officer's vehicle had a passenger, and four others were in the ill-fated trailer; the driver of the G Touring also escaped the accident with injuries.
The victims were rushed to the Narok County Referral Hospital, with the two bodies booked at the facility's morgue ahead of autopsy and the identification of the truck driver.
The accident occurred exactly a week after another one that cost the life of a Nyandarua politician.
It was on Sunday, June 22, when Beth Wahito, a specially elected member of the Nyandarua County Assembly, died in a road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
The sad news was confirmed by Nyandarua County Assembly Speaker Wachira Waiganjo, who eulogised the late Wahito as a trailblazer in politics and a dedicated public servant.
