Raila is the 5th Member of Odinga Family to Contract Covid-19 - Oburu Odinga

The Odinga family Spokesperson Dr. Oburu Odinga has opened up on the family’s battle with Covid-19, noting that five members have been affected over the past five months.

Dr. Oburu noted that he was the first member of the family to contract the virus, adding that he tested positive after they hosted a delegation of Kikuyu elders at their Bondo home.

He further noted that his sister Ruth Odinga, his son, and his younger brother Raila Odinga have also contracted the virus.

The East Africa Legislative Assembly Member of Parliament said another member of the family is currently in isolation after testing positive but did not reveal the person’s identity.

“You know it is a strange disease and going by what had been in the news then, my family members were shocked but we had faith that we would overcome it… I was very confident that I would overcome it because to me it is just like any other disease. In fact, many people die of other diseases everyday so it was just normal… Mine was kind of asymptomatic but I had faith that I would overcome it and here I am and by the grace of God I feel strong,” Oburu said while sharing his experience battling Covid-19.

Regarding the way forward for Raila after he was recently discharged from hospital, Oburu noted that he’ll be taking a break to rest until his doctors give him the green light.

“I want to tell Kenyans that Raila will be back in action to continue with his activities and political campaigns for the BBI but for now he is still following the guidelines of the medics,” he said.
