The government has commenced a nationwide virtual training programme targeting drivers of government vehicles.

In a statement on Wednesday, July 2, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei said the training is being conducted by the Government Vehicle Check Unit (GVCU), the Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBT), and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

"My office today convened a national virtual training for all government drivers, reinforcing the value the government places on their crucial role in public service.

"Delivered in collaboration with the Government Vehicle Check Unit, Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology(KIHBT) and NTSA, the training brought together drivers from across Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Parliament, the Judiciary, Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices," he said.

The half-day training, which is mandatory, is divided into two cohorts.

The first cohort covers drivers in national government institutions, while the second, scheduled for 9th July 2025, will involve drivers in county governments and county assemblies.

Koskei emphasized that the training goes beyond basic instruction.

"This was not just a routine exercise, it is part of a deliberate effort to nurture professionalism, safety, and accountability among those entrusted with the care of government vehicles.

"Drivers received guidance on ethical conduct, vehicle maintenance, compliance with traffic laws, and updates on fleet protocols, including GKB 1111 and the rollout of new number plates," he added.

Virtual links for participation are sent upon registration, ensuring streamlined access for all targeted government drivers.
