Kalonzo had accused Wetang'ula of sponsoring the goons who targeted their convoy.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has denied allegations of sponsoring goons to disrupt a rally by opposition leaders in Bungoma County.

In a statement dated Friday, July 4, Wetang'ula stated he was not around Bungoma at the time of the incident.

Following a comment made by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, he detailed that he was at the Coast.

The speaker added that he had nothing to gain by disrupting the rally.

"Kalonzo, my brother, as you have correctly addressed me, stop your misplaced anger and transferred malice," he responded.

"I'm in Mombasa. Keep me out of your angry politics. In case your memory fails you, I was last a constituency MP in 2013."

Earlier, Kalonzo had accused Wetang'ula of sponsoring the goons who targeted their convoy.

During the incident, some of their vehicles were damaged.

According to the opposition, the goons were being protected by the police during the incident.

"Speaker Wetangula's state-sponsored goons throwing stones and firing bullets under the protection of Riot Police did not deter our March to Kitale," he alleged. 

"The message from Butula to Bungoma to Kimilili to Kiminini to Kitale is the same as Vihiga and Bungoma yesterday - wantam!"
