The incident comes days after the Mawego Police Station in Homa Bay County was torched.

The Itibo Patrol base in Bonyunyu, Nyamira County, was set ablaze on Tuesday, July 8, after a 19-year-old student was shot.

The incident happened after a group of students staged a protest outside the offices of the local Member of the County Assembly.

Police officers were then deployed to disperse the huge crowd that had gathered outside the MCA’s office.

One student was shot in the stomach during the operation and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

No firearms were stolen from the station’s armoury during the incident.

The Itibo Patrol Base is the latest police station to be torched, following a similar incident at Mawego Police Station in Homa Bay County, where the late Albert Ojwang was initially detained before being transferred to Central Police Station.

The station was set ablaze on Thursday, July 3, by irate protesters who marched there carrying Ojwang’s body.

On June 27, Ndunyu Njeru Police Station in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, was also torched by angry residents after a police officer allegedly shot and killed a man.

The locals had stormed the station to demand justice over rampant cattle theft in the area. During the melee, an officer opened fire and fatally shot one of the protestors.

The shooting incident angered the locals, who then set the Police Station on fire.

Other police stations that have been set on fire in recent weeks include: Dagoretti, Molo, and Ol Kalau.
