The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has warned motorists and pedestrians to be watchful while driving or walking across railway lines.
In a bid to mitigate tragic accidents on railway lines, the corporations warned motorists against operating on nondesignated spots along the lines.
The agency noted that railway lines are designed exlusively for train operations, warning against driving and parking near the tracks.
"Kenya Railways wishes to caution members of the public against the dangerous practice of driving motor vehicles along the railway line. This behavior poses a serious risk to the safety of motorists, passengers, and train operations. It may also result in severe accidents, damage to property, injury, or loss of life," a statement from the KRC read.
The corporation warned that anyone found to operate near railway lines would be subjected to justice.

It advised pedestrians to cross the lines only at the designated points,
"We remind all road users that railway lines and reserves are strictly designated for train operations only. Unauthorized driving or parking along the railway track is prohibited and offenders are liable to prosecution under the law. For your safety and that of others, please: Do not drive or walk along the railway track. Cross the railway line only at designated level crossings. Always adhere to road and rail safety rules. Your cooperation will help us keep our railways safe for all," the KRC said.
The advisory comes weeks after an accident involving a bus and cargo train claimed nine lives.
The bus, which was ferrying Kenya Pipeline staff, was crashed by the train near the Morendat Junction in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
The bus driver was reportedly not aware of the oncoming train when it rammed into its side and dragging it about 200 metres further before stopping.
Eight people perished at the scene, with one succumbing to their injuries while receiving treatment.
Authorities said the rainy weather contributed to the accident as it was misty for motorists to observe static and moving obstructions.
KRC deployed its responders to the scene to complement the efforts by the Kenya Road Cross team to rescue the victims.
