The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has appointed Sophia Sitati as the Acting Registrar of Political Parties, effective Monday, July 14.
In a statement on Tuesday, July 15, the ORPP said Sitati takes over from Ann Nderitu who was appointed as a commissioner at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
"The ORPP is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Sophia Sitati as the Acting Registrar of Political Parties effective the 14th of July, 2025," the statement read.
Sitati joins the ORPP from the Office of the Attorney General, State Department for Justice & Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs, where she served as Chief State Counsel.
"She brings to ORPP a wealth of expertise and experience as a seasoned legal practitioner having served in various portfolios in Government," the statement added.

Nderitu officially handed over responsibilities to Sitati on Tuesday, July 15, during a briefing session at the ORPP headquarters.
Sitati was also introduced to a section of the management and staff during the transition.
"Ms. Sitati joins a dedicated pool of staff in progressing ORPP's milestones since establishment in 2008," the statement concluded.
Elsewhere, in a notice on Tuesday morning, the Public Service Commission (PSC) invited qualified candidates to apply for the position of the Registrar of Political Parties.
Interested candidates must hold a degree from a university recognized in Kenya and have knowledge and experience in finance, management, political science, law, governance, and public administration.
Applicants should also have at least 15 years post-qualification experience in the relevant areas of expertise; have high moral character and integrity, and have satisfied the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
The registrar of political parties is mandated to oversee the registration, regulation, and supervision of political parties to ensure compliance with the Political Parties Act.
Other roles include administering the Political Parties Fund, ensuring the publication of audited annual accounts of political parties, and verifying and making publicly available the list of all party members.
The Registrar is also responsible for keeping and maintaining a register of members of registered political parties, as well as a register of political parties and their symbols
Additionally, the Registrar regulates political party nominations per the Political Parties Act, investigates complaints received under the Act, and performs any other functions as may be assigned by the Act or any other written law.
