People's Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has dismissed speculations that she is eyeing the National Assembly Speaker position in a proposed opposition lineup for the 2027 polls.
Speaking on Thursday, July 24, Karua said that she had already served four consecutive terms in Parliament and has no intention of returning to the legislature in any capacity.
"I was in Parliament for twenty years, serving four consecutive terms, and I ran for president in 2012 but did not succeed.
“I cannot return to Parliament in any capacity, whether as Speaker or anything else. I am satisfied with the twenty years I served in Parliament,” Karua stated.
The PLP leader dismissed a 2027 opposition lineup doing rounds on social media, noting that the opposition camp is yet to reach an agreement.

“That lineup is just someone’s personal thoughts, because if there were an actual lineup involving the opposition principals, it would have been brought to the table for discussion.
“I am the co-convener together with Kalonzo Musyoka. We haven’t called for a meeting, nor have we been informed about it,” Karua added.
Further, the PLP party leader ruled out the possibility of being a running mate in the 2027 General Election, stating that she would rather support someone else for the position.
"I closed the chapter on being a running mate in 2022. I would rather let someone else take the position," Karua remarked.
This comes days after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also rubbished the opposition lineup for the 2027 election.
Gachagua claimed that the lineup was crafted by the state to divide the united opposition team.
“We have not settled on anybody. There's only one thing that we have agreed on, and it's one term,” Gachagua said.
