President William Ruto on Sunday, July 27, held talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
In a statement after the meeting, President Ruto said Kenya and Ethiopia share a deep relationship grounded in good neighborliness and strong diplomatic ties.
He noted that the ties between the two nations are anchored on a special status agreement signed in 2012.
The agreement provides a framework for cooperation in infrastructure development, energy, trade and investment, and regional integration.
“This enduring partnership has been characterized by mutual respect and cooperation, fostering stability and collaboration in the Horn of Africa.

Prime Minister Ahmed, on his part, said the meeting with President Ruto focused on bilateral relations as well as regional issues of mutual interest.
“Received William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, for bilateral talks ahead of the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit, which Ethiopia is co-hosting. Our discussions focused on bilateral relations as well as regional issues of mutual interest,” the Ethiopian Prime Minister stated.
Ruto left the country for Ethiopia on Sunday afternoon to attend the second United Nations Food Systems Summit.
State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, in a statement, said Ruto’s trip is aimed at affirming Kenya’s role in reshaping global food systems.
"At the summit, the President will deliver Kenya's national statement, reaffirming the country's commitment to transforming food systems to support sustainable development and enhance climate resilience," the statement read.
Beyond addressing the summit, President Ruto is expected to hold several strategic engagements and high-level meetings with leaders and private sector players, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and African Union Commission Chairperson Mahamoud Ali Youssouf.
