Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a warning to drug dealers after NACADA raided a den in Kitale and recovered bhang worth over Ksh3 million.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a warning to drug dealers after security agencies raided a suspected drug den in Kitale and recovered bhang worth over Ksh3 million.

In a statement on Monday, July 28, Murkomen said the operation was carried out on Sunday by security officers and the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

Murkomen confirmed the success of the raid and praised the efforts of law enforcement in executing the directive to dismantle drug networks.

"Following our directive to intensify the crackdown on drug barons and second-generation alcohol merchants, our security agencies, working with NACADA, yesterday raided a suspected drug den in Kitale town and recovered cannabis valued at over Ksh3 million," he said.

Murkomen noted that such crackdowns will continue across the country, and those involved will face justice.

"Those involved in this crime will face the full force of the law. Similar crackdowns will continue across the country until we rid our nation of these harmful substances which are ruining the lives of our young people," he added.

This comes barely two weeks after a woman suspected to be a key player in a drug trafficking network has been arrested in Murang’a County following a coordinated operation by the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU).

According to a statement released by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, July 18, the woman was apprehended at her residence in Kandara, Murang’a.

This is after members of the public reported suspicious activities to the authorities at the premises.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, ANU detectives conducted a raid that led to the seizure of 13 gunny bags filled with bhang.

“The bhang weighing 225kgs with an estimated street value of Ksh6.7 million,” the statement read in part.

Also recovered during the search were packaging materials believed to be used for processing and distributing the narcotics.

“Eunice Wangui Kimani is currently in custody, undergoing processing in preparation for her court appearance. Meanwhile, the seized narcotics have been securely detained as exhibits,” DCI added.
