Two suspects have been taken into custody by detectives in Nyamira North following a shocking incident of mob injustice that occurred on July 26, 2025.

According to a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, July 30, the suspects, identified as James Nyang’au Kieri and Evans Nyang’au Anyoka, were captured in a disturbing video that has since gone viral on social media.

In the footage seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, the two men violently beat up the man accused of theft before throwing him into a burning fire.

DCI investigators were able to track down the suspects through forensic analysis and subsequently arrested them.

In response to the incident, the National Police Service expressed deep concern over the growing trend of mob justice across the country.

Authorities reiterated the importance of allowing due process to take its course and warned that individuals who take the law into their own hands will face the full force of the law.

“The public is urged to allow the justice system to take its course, as taking the law into one’s own hands will be met with the full force of the law,” DCI advised.

In a separate incident in Nyamira on July 8, tensions flared after a 19-year-old man was shot and seriously injured during a confrontation between police and protesting students.

The incident sparked outrage among residents, culminating in a violent mob attack on the Itibo police station in Bonyunyu.

The crowd, reportedly angered by the shooting, overwhelmed officers at the station, looted the premises, and later set it ablaze. Houses used by police personnel were also vandalized in the chaos.

Authorities confirmed that while the station suffered extensive damage, all firearms remained secure.
