Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala now claims that the ruling UDA party cannot win a single seat in the upcoming 22 by-elections. 

Speaking at the DCP Party Headquarters on Tuesday, August 5, Malala accused UDA of pressuring the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to postpone announcing election dates because they are unprepared.

"Up to today, IEBC has not given us the dates for the by-elections. We know the ruling party is trying to push the dates further. They are not ready because they have done a survey and realized that out of 22 by-elections, there is none they can win," Malala stated.

The deputy party leader alleged that UDA's delay tactics stem from internal surveys showing their inability to secure victories in any of the contested seats, forcing them to seek more preparation time.

The DCP officially unveiled its candidates for all 22 upcoming by-elections, and Malala expressed confidence in securing decisive victories once the IEBC announced election dates.

"Today, on behalf of the party leader, I am glad to unveil the following candidates in the following electoral jurisdictions," Malala stated. “We will have nominations in areas where we have more than one candidate, and we have agreed, and it's the resolve of the national executive council that we are going to have a free and fair nomination. We are not going to favour any candidates.”

Malala called on the IEBC to resist government pressure and maintain its independence, urging the electoral body to announce election dates promptly without succumbing to ruling party intimidation.

"I urge the IEBC not to be dictated by the ruling party. IEBC is an independent commission and should execute its mandate independently," he said. "I want to ask our counterparts from the ruling party to stop interfering with the decisions of the IEBC. We are ready for elections, and IEBC should give us a date as soon as possible.”
