The incident comes months after a 13-year-old was attacked and killed by a lioness in Tuala, Ongata Rongai.
The victim, Peace Mwende, was playing with two of her friends in their compound on Saturday evening, April 19, when the lioness attacked her.
The lioness is reported to have dragged Mwende into a nearby river and ate 80 percent of her body.
Mwende’s father, Kennedy Kigen, recounted hearing her daughter screaming and rushed outside only to find the lioness dragging his daughter away.
Kigen’s efforts to rescue her daughter from the lioness were, however, futile.
“I was nearby when I heard screams. I came outside to try and help, only to find my child being carried away by the lioness. We tried to follow, but we couldn’t save her,” Kigen narrated.
Notably, a day earlier, a 54-year-old man in Kyeni, Nyeri County, was attacked by an elephant as he was grazing his livestock.
The man sustained serious chest injuries, fractured ribs, and internal trauma; he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries.
