The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed that multiple by-elections across the country will be held on November 27, 2025.
In a statement on Saturday, August 9, IEBC said the first gazette notice for the by-elections was issued on Friday, August 8, while the second will be published through a special gazette on Monday, August 11.
"All By-Elections will be held on 27th November 2025. The gazettement of the By-Elections has been scheduled in two batches," the electoral body said.
According to the notice, the first batch covers Members of County Assemblies for a total of 16 wards.
These include Angata Nanyokie Ward in Samburu County, Chemundu/Kapng’etuny Ward in Nandi County, Chewani Ward in Tana River County, Fafi Ward in Garissa County, Kariobangi North Ward in Nairobi City County, Kisa East Ward in Kakamega County, Metkei Ward in Elgeyo Marakwet County, and Mumbuni North Ward in Machakos County.

Others are Narok Town Ward in Narok County, Purko Ward in Kajiado County, Tembelio Ward in Uasin Gishu County, Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, and Ekerenyo Wards in Nyamira County, as well as Lake Zone and Nanaam Wards in Turkana County.
The second batch, which will be gazetted on Monday will include the Member of Senate seat for Baringo County, six National Assembly seats for Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja constituencies, and one County Assembly seat for Kabuchai/Chwele Ward in Bungoma County.
This comes days after IEBC announced the commencement of its accreditation process for organizations interested in participating in the upcoming by-elections for the 2025/2026 financial year.
In a public notice released on Wednesday, August 6, the Commission invited applications from organizations seeking to be accredited as Voter Education Providers, Election Observers, or Media Practitioners.
Interested parties were advised to ensure they have access to a stable internet connection when submitting their details via the online portal, before the Friday, September 5, 2025, at 5:00 PM deadline.
“All interested organizations must submit their applications through the IEBC Accreditation Management System (AMS) at: https://ams.iebc.or.ke,” the notice read.
