DCI detectives have arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued two victims in Thika.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued two victims in Thika, Kiambu County.

In a statement on Thursday, August 20, DCI said the two suspected kidnappers were apprehended following a tip-off from members of the public.

The suspects, Davis Mugambi and John Maina Macharia, were reported to have held two young women in a house against their will

“The suspects, Davis Mugambi and John Maina Macharia, were nabbed after a timely tip-off from vigilant members of the public who reported that two young women were being held against their will in a house at Muguga area,” read part of the DCI statement.

Detectives stormed the house and found the two victims visibly shaken, in tears, and nursing signs of physical assault.

According to the DCI, the mobile phones of the two victims had been seized by the suspects in a bid to cut them off from the outside world.

The sleuths searched the premises and recovered seven mobile phones, five Safaricom SIM plates, and three Airtel SIM plates.

“Outside the house, detectives impounded a motor vehicle, registration number KDT 998N, the gang’s getaway car. Inside the vehicle, detectives found four kitchen knives, seven matchboxes, and other suspicious items,” DCI stated.

DCI disclosed that the two women kidnapped in Nyeri on August 19, 2025, and ferried to Thika using the impounded vehicle.

Detectives unmasked Mugambi as a wanted man in Nyeri for a string of kidnapping and theft cases, suggesting the suspects may be part of a wider criminal web.

The two suspects are in police custody as detectives finalize investigations before they are arraigned in court.

This comes months after detectives rescued a 3-year-old boy who was stolen from his home in Ruiru, Kiambu County, and arrested two suspects linked to the kidnapping.

The suspects were nabbed after the parents of the child reported his disappearance at the Ruiru Police Station.

Detectives then launched investigations into the missing child, leading them to the Western and Central regions.

The hawkshaws stormed into one of the suspect’s houses in Tetu, Nyeri county, and found the minor in the company of the house owner and the man believed to have snatched him away from his Ruiru home.

The child was rescued and taken to safety while the two suspects were cuffed and taken into custody.
