Ladnan Hospital has moved to address reports linking the facility to Social Health Authority (SHA) chairperson Dr. Abdi Mohamed.

Ladnan Hospital has moved to address reports linking the facility to Social Health Authority (SHA) chairperson Dr. Abdi Mohamed.

In a statement on Tuesday, August 26, Metro Group PLC CEO Dr. Kanyenje Gakombe stated that the hospital is owned by Metropolitan Hospital Holdings Limited, which is by TMG, a company with over 500 shareholders.

"The Metro Group PLC (TMG) issues this statement to clarify recent reports regarding the ownership of Ladnan Hospital Limited (Pangani, Nairobi).

"Ladnan Hospital Limited in Pangani is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Metropolitan Hospital Holdings Limited, which is wholly-owned by TMG. TMG is a public unlisted company with over 500 shareholders," the statement read.

Gakombe confirmed that Mohamed was once associated with the facility, however, he clarified that Mohamed sold his entire stake in Metropolitan Hospital Holdings Limited last year

"Dr. Abdi Mohamed, one of the original founders of Ladnan Hospital in Pangani, sold his entire stake in Metropolitan Hospital Holdings Limited in July 2023.

"He has had no role in the ownership, management, or operations of the hospital since that time and is not a shareholder, director, or employee of Ladnan Hospital Limited or TMG," the statement added.

The company further stressed that the matter is verifiable through official company records made available at the Registrar of Companies.

"This information is a matter of public record and can be independently verified through official CR12 filings with the Registrar of Companies, which list TMG as the sole shareholder of Metropolitan Hospital Holdings Limited," the statement further read.

To put the matter to rest, Metro Group reiterated that Ladnan Hospital remains under its exclusive oversight.

"The governance of Ladnan Hospital Limited falls under the full and sole authority of The Metro Group PLC's board, ensuring all operations adhere to the highest standards of integrity and remain independent of any external influence," the statement concluded.

This clarification comes following social media reports that Ladnan Hospital has been received suspiciously high payments from SHA.

The claims originated from whistleblowers and social media users who claimed that the hospital received Ksh52 million in a single month.

"Ladnan hospital associated with chairman of SHA Abdi Mohamed allocated his Wajir hospital a whopping Ksh52 million in one month, more than KUTRRH and MTRH combined," a whistleblower, Nelson Amenya, claimed.

In response, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said Mohamed formerly owned Ladnan Hospital and dismissed assertions of conflict of interest.

"Social Health Authority (SHA) chairman Abdi Mohamed used to own Ladnan Hospital; there is no conflict of interest," he noted.
