Kenya Power has issued a notice of scheduled power interruptions that will affect parts of Nairobi on Saturday, August 30.

In a statement on Friday, August 29, the company said the outage will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will enable maintenance works to be carried out along sections of Mombasa Road.

Areas to be affected include Alpha Center, Ram Toms Mombasa Road, Crown Health, Express Kenya, Nice and Lovely, Express High Offices, Manchester Out Fitters, and surrounding customers.

This comes two weeks after Kenya Power outlined how differences in tariff categories can affect the number of electricity units purchased for the same amount of money.

The company noted that customers are placed into specific tariff bands based on their monthly electricity consumption, with each band attracting a different cost per unit.

The Domestic 1 tariff, also referred to as the lifeline category, applies to households consuming fewer than 30 units of electricity per billing period.

Under this band, the rate is set at Ksh12.23 per unit, exclusive of taxes and levies. This category is designed to keep electricity affordable for homes with minimal power usage.

The Domestic 2 tariff covers households that use between 30 and 100 units of electricity per month. Consumption in this range is charged at Ksh16.45 per unit, before taxes and levies.

The Domestic 3 tariff applies to households consuming between 101 and 15,000 units monthly. In this category, each unit is charged at Ksh19.02, excluding taxes and levies.

Elsewhere, Kenya Power explained how users can retrieve their last three purchased prepaid tokens in case they accidentally delete the SMS or are unsure if they entered the token correctly.

The company reminded customers that this existing service can be accessed by dialing *977#, selecting Option 1 for Prepaid Services, choosing 'Latest Tokens,' and entering the meter number.

Kenya Power emphasized that this feature is especially helpful for households where multiple members may need access to token information.
