Former Kirinyaga County Deputy Governor Julius Muthike Njiri has passed away.
Njiri served as the first Kirinyaga Deputy Governor between 2013 and 2017 alongside Governor Joseph Ndathi.
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, on Tuesday, September 2, confirmed Njiri’s death and eulogized him as a leader who embodied service, knowledge, and enterprise.
Waiguru also extended her condolences to the family and friends of the former Kirinyaga Deputy Governor.

Kirinyaga Senator Murango Kamau eulogized Njiri as a towering leader who was dedicated to serving the people of Kirinyaga.
“Hon. Njiiri laid firm foundations upon which our county continues to grow, and his name will forever be written in the story of Kirinyaga.
“My heartfelt condolences to his family and all who cherished him. May God grant them strength and peace during this painful time,” said the Kirinyaga senator.
The late Njiri assumed office in 2013 after being elected on a TNA ticket alongside Governor Joseph Ndathi.
However, their relationship was strained, with Njiri accusing Ndathi of failing to assign him duties.
Njiri also decried being denied transport and fuel allowances, and claimed his official vehicle had been withdrawn.
After leaving office, Njiri pursued further studies and earned a PhD in Business Administration from Miramar California University in 2022.
Njiru’s death comes a week after former Laikipia North Member of Parliament Mathew Lempurkel Lekidime passed away.
Lempurkel died on August 24 at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The former MP was admitted to KNH after being involved in a road accident on Monday, August 18, at the Exciting area in Ong'ata Rongai along Magadi Road.
Lempurkel served as the Laikipia North MP from 2013 to 2017 under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
