Geoffrey Mosiria has announced that the Nairobi County enforcement team is working with the National Police Service (NPS) to ensure safety in the CBD.

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria has weighed in on the growing cases of insecurity within the Nairobi central business district (CBD).

In a statement on Wednesday, September 3, Mosiria said that gang members disguise themselves as content creators but steal from unsuspecting members of the public in the evening.

Mosiria noted that the groups, usually made up of between 20 and 30 individuals, surround their victims before robbing them of their belongings.

“These youths disguise themselves as Gen Z content creators in the CBD, but by around 5:00 p.m., they begin stealing from unsuspecting people.

“They operate in large groups of 20–30 criminals, surrounding victims and robbing them of all their belongings,” said Mosiria.

The Nairobi Chief Officer for Environment also pointed out that some street families use human waste to extort money from residents before fleeing to the backstreets.

“Some even use human waste to extort money or valuables from residents. Improper waste disposal and unsanitary practices not only harm the environment but also create unsafe spaces that criminals exploit,” he stated.

Further, Mosiria announced that the Nairobi County enforcement team is working with the National Police Service (NPS) to ensure safety in the CBD.

“Our enforcement team, working closely with the National Police Service, continues operations to remove these individuals from our streets and ensure public spaces remain safe and hygienic.

“Security and environmental operations are underway, and no resident should live in fear. The safety, security, and cleanliness of our city and its residents remain paramount,” he stated.

Further, Mosiria urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and report any cases of illegal dumping, suspicious groups in Nairobi CBD for immediate action to be taken.

On Monday, September 1, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko raised concerns over rising insecurity in the Nairobi CBD.

Sonko, in a statement, said thugs armed with crude weapons have been stealing from unsuspecting members of the public.

The former Nairobi Governor noted that the thugs mainly target women in Nairobi CBD.

“Cases of thugs using crude weapons like knives, machetes, real and toy guns to steal from unsuspecting members of the public within the CBD have become rampant. Their main target is women,” said Sonko.

He called on the police to move with speed and take action on the suspects terrorizing members of the public in Nairobi CBD.

“As a former leader of Nairobi, I am humbly appealing to the National police service to move with speed and bring these culprits to book. Their days are numbered,” Sonko added.
