The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued an advisory urging motorists to exercise caution while driving towards the Eveready roundabout along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued an advisory urging motorists to exercise caution while driving towards the Eveready roundabout along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway due to potential risks caused by geological activities.

In a statement on Saturday, September 6, the authority said earlier geological activities had undermined the road shoulder in the area, raising safety concerns for road users.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to notify members of the public to continue exercising caution as they drive towards Eveready roundabout on the A8 Road. This is due to some earlier noted geological activities that had earlier undermined the road shoulder and could potentially recur especially with the rains,” the statement read.

KeNHA assured the public that it is working in collaboration with other relevant government agencies to monitor the situation closely.

The authority also confirmed that geologists would carry out an in-depth investigation with the aim of finding a lasting solution.

"The Authority, together with other relevant government agencies, will continue monitoring and also conduct an in-depth investigation with the assistance of geologists with a view of addressing the issue accordingly," the statement added.

Meanwhile, motorists have been advised to adhere to traffic signs and regulations around the affected section to ensure the safety of all road users.

"In the meantime, motorists are urged to abide to the relevant traffic signs and rules for the safety of all road users," the statement further read.

This comes a day after KeNHA announced the reopening of the Nakuru-bound carriageway of the Nakuru–Eldoret (A8) highway hours after it was closed due to the formation of a sinkhole.

In a statement on Thursday, September 4, KeNHA assured motorists that the road is safe from any further water or geological action.

The authority said it will continue to monitor the behavior of the pyroduct upstream of the road to ensure the safety of road users.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) seeks to notify the public that the Nakuru-bound carriageway of the Nakuru - Eldoret (A8) Road has been opened and traffic flow restored. The road is now safe from any further water and geological action," the statement read.

On Wednesday, September 3, the authority issued a traffic advisory announcing the closure of a section of the road following the formation of a sinkhole.

KeNHA asked drivers to exercise caution while approaching the area and to follow instructions from marshals and traffic police officers on site.

"This evening, the Kenya National Highways Authority closed the Nakuru-bound carriageway of the Nakuru - Eldoret (A8) Road at Eveready Roundabout following the formation of a sinkhole on the road. KeNHA is working around the clock to ensure normal traffic flow is restored.

"Motorists are advised to exercise caution as they approach the area and follow directions from traffic police and marshals to ensure the safety of all road users," KeNHA stated.
