The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has announced that rainfall is expected to continue in some parts of the country this week.
In a statement on Tuesday, September 9, the Met Department predicted rainfall in the Highlands, East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley.
“Rainfall is expected to continue in a few parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley,” read part of the weather forecast.
The weatherman noted that the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley will experience sunny mornings with occasional showers in some areas.
In the afternoon, showers and thunderstorms are expected in several areas, with showers persisting in some locations at night.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, mornings will be cloudy with light rains in some areas, before giving way to sunny intervals. Showers are also likely in a few places during the afternoon and at night.
At the same time, the Met Department said the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya regions will experience maximum daytime temperatures of above 30°C this week.
On the other hand, parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and the Mt. Kilimanjaro region will experience minimum nighttime temperatures of below 10°C.
KMD further warned that strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots are expected over the coastal region this week.
The strong winds will also be experienced in the South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya regions.
“Strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s) expected over the Coast (including Kenya’s territorial waters), South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya,” KMD stated.
Between September 1 and September 7, rainfall was experienced in parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and Central Rift Valley.
The highest seven-day rainfall total was recorded at Kibisi Secondary School in Bungoma, which received 91.2mm.
The highest 24-hour rainfall in the week was measured at Eluuya Girls’ Secondary School in Bungoma, where 59.2mm fell on September 7.
The hottest day was recorded in Mandera, where temperatures rose to 37.4°C on September 7, while the coldest night was in Nyahururu, which experienced 7.2°C on September 6.
