A section of students from Moi University have hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta over his decision to suspend physical learning in university due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking on Saturday, the comrades led by students’ chairman Wakhulu Nyamwangala noted that they are aging and need to continue with classes.
According to him, comrades have been disciplined and fully adhering to the set measures, therefore there was no need to close universities.
“We are not going to remain tranquil on this…doing a semester for almost three years is discouraging and dispiriting we comrades are aging. We are becoming old… we are the future hope of this country…It is unbecoming for the president to swing learning in our institutions despite knowing that comrades are vigilant in adhering to the set measures…” he said in part.

Nyamwangala’s point of view was echoed by another student who noted that they are spending their prime years in campus instead of being out there building the nation.
“Physical learning is suspended what next? How can you take a semester for three years?...My parents are wondering I am going to retire why still at the lecture hall?” he posed.
Meanwhile, the University of Nairobi has suspended physical learning, urging teachers and students to take advantage of available online platforms.
“All teaching and learning will continue to take place online. The Director ICTC to facilitate staff and students in upscaling the uptake and utilization of online solutions… International students are encouraged to take advantage of the available international flights to go home and those with challenges to contact the Director Corporate Affairs for any clarification and guidance,” Uon Vice Chancellor said in a statement.
