Drama unfolded at a funeral in Kisii County on Friday, September 12, after Kitutu Chache South MP Antoney Kibagendi and his Kitutu Chache North counterpart Japheth Nyakundi clashed in front of mourners.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the two lawmakers were seen standing on the podium before Kibagendi launched a scathing attack against President William Ruto.
"We were hoodwinked as a community and as a nation to elect a president who is a liar," Kibagendi said before Nyakundi interjected.
The two leaders continued speaking simultaneously, each holding a microphone, as tension built up among the mourners.
The situation escalated when the MPs began pushing each other across the podium, drawing cheers from sections of the crowd.

At one point, Nyakundi attempted to shove Kibagendi off the raised podium, prompting their security teams to rush forward and separate them.
The confrontation happened during the burial of Salome Ongwae, the stepmother to former Kisii Governor James Ongwae.
Other leaders present at the funeral included South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro, Kisii Woman Representative Dorice Donya, Kisii Senator Richard Onyanka, and Nyamira Senator Okongo Omogeni.

This comes more than a year after Mumias East MP Peter Salasya was caught on camera slapping a Member of the County Assembly during a funeral in Kakamega County.
The confrontation happened on Friday, January 12, 2024, at a burial in Malaha, where Salasya had taken to the podium to address mourners.
The MCA, Peter Walunya, reportedly urged Salasya to exercise decorum while making his remarks.
Salasya, angered by the interjection, instructed the MCA to sit down; when Walunya did not immediately comply, the MP lost his temper and slapped him in front of the mourners.
Chaos erupted as Salasya’s bodyguards rushed to the podium, overpowered the MCA, and dragged him away.
Police officers later intervened, and Salasya was arrested before being detained at Shianda Police Station in Kakamega County.
He was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm and creating a disturbance likely to cause a breach of peace.
The MP was released on a cash bail of Ksh50,000 as he awaited arraignment in court. His first appearance was set for Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the Mumias Law Courts.
