The online ticket purchase platform will be unavailable during maintenance works on the system.

The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has notified Kenyans of a planned system maintenance that would affect online ticket purchasing.

The agency in statement on Saturday, September 21, said the the maintenance on metickets.krc.co.ke would be undertaken between September 20, 11 pm, and September 21, 3 am.

Passengers were required to make their purchases early before the maintenance starts. 

No alternative platform for ticket purchasing was offered.

"We wish to inform our customers and the general public that the metickets.krc.co.ke platform will undergo scheduled maintenance on September 20th 2025, at 11:00 PM to September 21st 202,5 at 3:00 AM. During this period, online ticketing services will be temporarily unavailable. Passengers are advised to make their bookings in advance to avoid inconvenience. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding as we work to serve you better," the agency said.

The update came days after the corporation announced the fair rates for the newly launched Mombasa Commuter Rail Service.

On Wednesday, September 17, KRC issued a statement confirming that each trip will cost a budget-friendly fare of Ksh50.

Train services will run between Mombasa Terminus, Miritini, and the Mombasa Railway Station, as outlined in the operational timetable.

Departures from Mombasa Terminus to Mombasa Station are scheduled at 4:10am (arriving 4:45am), 7:20am (arriving 7:55am), 2:25pm (arriving 3:00pm), 6:25pm (arriving 7:00pm), and 9:10pm (arriving 9:45pm).

For the reverse route—from Mombasa Station back to Mombasa Terminus—trains leave at 6:25am (arriving 7:00am), 12:35pm (arriving 1:10pm), 5:30pm (arriving 6:05pm), 7:30pm (arriving 8:05pm), and 7:20pm (arriving 7:55pm).

Travelers arriving in Mombasa via the Madaraka Express from Nairobi at 4:00am, 2:00pm, and 8:30pm can conveniently connect to the city center using link trains departing Mombasa Terminus at 4:10am, 2:25pm, and 9:00pm respectively.

Similarly, those departing Mombasa on the Madaraka Express at 8:00am, 3:00pm, and 10:00pm can access connecting trains from Mombasa Railway Station at 6:25am, 12:35pm, and 7:20pm.

The service was commissioned by President William Ruto.
