Two people succumbed after a vehicle they were travelling in rammed into the campaign caravan of Bonchari Constituency parliamentary aspirant Teresa Bitutu.

Two people died and several others injured after a probox rammed into a United Democratic Alliance campaign rally in Bonchari Constituency on March 29, 2021.

Police in the region stated that the probox crushed into the caravan of UDA candidate Teresa Bitutu Oyioka.

A man and woman who were in the probox, died as they were being rushed to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.

Members of the public who witnessed the incident stated that the accident occurred when the vehicle tried to overtake the caravan.

South Mugirango Member of Parliament Sylvanus Osoro confirmed that the UDA candidate did not suffer any injuries as she was in a different vehicle.

The Bonchari Parliamentary seat was declared vacant following the untimely demise of John Oroo Oyioka.

The late MP succumbed on February 15 while undergoing treatment at the Agha Khan Hospital in Kisumu.

Mrs Oyioka, the UDA candidate, is the wife to late MP.

The Bonchari by-election has since attracted 13 contestants including, city lawyer Cliff Ombeta.

The by-election will be held on May 18, 2021.
