Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has revealed the role former President Uhuru Kenyatta will play in the party once he steps down as the party leader.

In an interview on Sunday, September 28, Kioni explained that Uhuru will not be leaving the political stage entirely but will instead take up a supportive role within a new structure aimed at harnessing the wisdom of seasoned leaders.

According to him, this move is designed to ensure that Jubilee continues benefiting from Uhuru's vast political experience.

"Uhuru Kenyatta will be part of an organ that will help the party benefit from his experiences. It will be something equivalent to a patron role, but he won’t be alone - we want to create an organ that includes other experienced people, not just himself," he said.

Speaking during the same interview, Kioni clarified why former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i did not address the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference (NDC) on Friday, September 26.

He explained that the NDC was convened to specifically address issues within the party.

Kioni said Matiang’i was not denied an opportunity to speak, but noted that the conference was primarily meant for Uhuru to give the party direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.

"This was an organ of the party we had called specifically to deal with the issues we had raised. It wasn’t a politicking platform.

"Matiang’i also attended the NDC as a member of the Jubilee Party, and he also knows when he wants to address it. He wasn’t denied an opportunity, but ideally, the party leader wanted to give directions as we are preparing for 2027," he noted.

Elsewhere, a Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) official has confirmed that the outfit was not invited to the Jubilee Party’s National Delegates Conference (NDC).

In an interview on Monday, September 29, DCP Party Kajiado Coordinator Daniel Kanchori said the matter was not a sign of strained relations between the two parties, but rather an internal decision by Jubilee.

"We were never invited to the Jubilee meeting. We know they had some in-house party issues to handle, so we were never invited," he said.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta spearheaded the Jubilee Party NDC on Friday, September 26, at the Jockey Club, Ngong Racecourse.

Notably, during the meeting, Uhuru confirmed that Jubilee Party continues to be a member of the Azimio coalition, despite significant changes within the coalition's membership over recent years.

He explained that the party had originally joined Azimio because of a shared vision for the country's future.

"When we last convened a National Delegates Conference prior to the 2022 general elections, the party resolved to become a member of the Azimio La Umoja coalition because I, as party leader then and now, was convinced that the coalition and its members shared a common vision for our country," he stated.
