The Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) has announced the appointment of Linda Bach as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) has announced the appointment of Linda Bach as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

In a statement on Monday, September 29, KEG President Zubeidah Kananu said Bach, who officially assumes office on October 16, 2025, will take over from Rosalia Omungo, who has served as CEO for the past eight years.

Kananu expressed confidence in Bach’s ability to lead the organization into its next chapter.

"We are pleased to announce the appointment of Linda Bach as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kenya Editors Guild, effective October 16, 2025.

"Linda brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, and we are confident that her leadership will drive the organisation forward," the statement read.

The appointment, however, comes with structural changes within KEG’s Executive Council.

Bach, who has been serving as Council Member Print on the Executive Council, will now vacate that position in line with the organization’s constitution.

Kananu confirmed that Andy Kagwa of Standard Group will assume the role.

At the same time, Millicent Awuor has been appointed as chairperson of the Programmes Committee, a role previously held by Bach.

"Linda's appointment as CEO will necessitate her stepping down from her current position as Council Member print on the Executive Council. As per the KEG constitution (Article VI clause 6), the EC has appointed Andy Kagwa of Standard Group to that position.

"Similarly, the EC has appointed Millicent Awuor as chairperson of the Programmes Committee, replacing Linda," the statement added.

Kananu also used the opportunity to pay tribute to the outgoing CEO, Rosalia Omungo, who had been at the helm of the institution for over a decade.

"We take this opportunity to sincerely thank the outgoing CEO, Rosalia Omungo, for her sterling role in steering KEG for the past eight years. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors," the statement concluded.

KEG is a professional association that brings together editors and senior journalists from media houses across the country.

It was founded in 1998 with the aim of creating a collective voice for editors at a time when the Kenyan media industry was expanding but faced frequent challenges from both the government and media owners.

Since its formation, KEG has grown into one of the most influential media organizations in the country and is regularly consulted on issues of press freedom, ethical journalism, election coverage, and media policy.

The Guild is led by an elected president and governing council, while a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) manages its daily operations.

Over the years, prominent media personalities such as Linus Kaikai, Churchill Otieno, and Zubeidah Kananu have served as its presidents.

The guild’s primary mandate is to defend press freedom and safeguard editorial independence; it actively advocates for a free media environment by resisting censorship, intimidation, and threats directed at journalists and media houses.

KEG also engages in dialogue with government institutions, civil society, and international organizations to ensure that journalism remains independent and free from undue influence.

Another key function of the guild is to promote professional standards and ethics within the media industry.

It provides guidance to editors on ethical practices, fairness, and accuracy in reporting, while also offering mentorship and training programs through workshops and seminars.
