Kenya Power has announced scheduled power interruptions in parts of 13 counties on Thursday, October 2.

In a statement on Wednesday, October 1, the company said the outages which will run from morning to late evening are meant to allow for maintenance works.

The counties set to experience the blackouts include Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, Kericho, Makueni, Busia, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Kiambu, Mombasa, Taita Taveta, and Meru.

In Uasin Gishu County, the blackout will begin at 8:00 a.m. and last until 5:00 p.m., affecting Kitingia and Burnt Forest areas. 

Customers in Kerita, Kapkoi, Bayete, Kitingia, Cherus, Ndungulu, Kaptega, Kapsundei, Sengalo, Chereber, Kapchorwa, Ndanai, Ngarua, Kondoo, Kapkeno, Languse, Kaptega Cheboror, Ainabkoi, and nearby locations will be without power for the day. 

In Nandi County, residents of Emrok and surrounding areas will be affected by a power cut running from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Trans Nzoia County will also face a day-long interruption, with the outage scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. 

Areas expected to be affected include Mois Bridge Centre, NCPB, Mois Bridge, Matunda, Natwana, Tenai, Bwayi, Milimani Centre, Simatwet Grain Millers, Conbelt Grain Millers and adjacent customers. 

In Kericho County, customers in Kipchimchim will experience a similar outage from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting Laliet Quarry, Taiwet Factory, Gokul Quarry, West Valley Quarry, Toror Tea Factory and surrounding areas.

In Makueni County, the whole of Kaumoni region will be without electricity from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

The affected areas include Itangini, Kaumoni, Mbumbuni, Kikima, Tawa KMTC, Tawa Market, Uvaani, Kiteta, Wanzauni, Kalawani, Mbooni Boys and Girls, Nzeveni, Kyuu and neighboring households. 

Residents of Busia County are also set to experience outages within the same timeframe. 

The affected areas will be Busia Town and its surroundings, including Busia County Offices, the KPLC Office, Busia County Referral Hospital and other nearby customers.

Kirinyaga County will not be spared, with a 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. blackout expected in Mutira Girls and IS Mathenge areas. 

Areas to be affected include Kathiti Mutira, Karaini Coffee Factory, Riakiana Market, Kiangige Village, Kabonge, Hukoni Village, Kiaragana Market, Karuku TBC and surrounding areas. 

In Murang’a County, the outage will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting Muchungucha, Kiria, Yamugwe, Ndutumi, Kamaguta, Kayahwe, Gaitega and their neighbors.

Three different blackout zones are scheduled for Nyeri County, all running from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

The first is Kiamathambo and adjacent customers while the second is Narumoru Girls and surrounding institutions, including Karkuret Retreat Centre, Narumoru Girls, Bagdad, Judea, Meere and Mbogoini A and B. 

The third covers Kamune and Thuita areas, affecting Kamune Market, Riakiberu Coffee Factory, Kamune Safaricom Booster, Iruri Market, Karugiro Coffee Factory, Gachirago Coffee Factory, Thuita Market, Githanga Secondary, Geitwa Market and St. Anne’s Kiambugi Secondary School.

In Kiambu County, two separate blackouts will occur between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The first will affect Zambezi, Sigona, Nderi, part of Kari, Rumwe, and the surrounding areas. 

The second will cover Kamwangi Market and its surroundings, including Ngethu Lower Camp, Kariuki Muiruri, Ngorongo Dispensary, Ngorongo Market, Ndekei Secondary, Dry Village, Kariua, Kamwangi DC’s, Kamwangi Market, Kairi Market and Nguna Village.

Nyamathumbi, Karuri, Igegania Hospital, Banguro, Nyamagara, Mukuyuini, Kang’oo, Mukurwe, Gatei, Kanjuku, Watathii, Gathaiti, Mbici, Ruburi, Mbogoro, Karera Village, Kagumoini, Ritho Village, Icaciri Secondary, Karingaini Village and other nearby customers will also be affected.

The Coast region will also be affected, with Mombasa County expected to face blackouts from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in part of Buxton and Tudor. 

The areas include Petro Saba Saba, Naivas Saba Saba, Hussein Bakery, High Life, Lucky Tots School, Afrigas, Ronald Ngala Primary School, Darajani Hotel, Railways Club Mombasa, and neighboring businesses. 

In Taita Taveta County, the blackout will affect the whole of Maktau from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including KWS Maktau, Lumo Lions Bluff Conservancy, Godoma, Mwashoti, Kwa Mnegwa, Sarova Saltlick Hotel and Lodges, the whole of Ziwani Farm and Voyager Hotels, the whole of Langatenyi, Mto Mwagodi Weighbridge, Mengo, and adjacent customers.

In Meru County, the outage will begin earlier, starting at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m. 

The affected areas will include Nchiru and Kagaene as well as Meru University of Science and Technology, Cedar Hotel, Mwithanga, Kanthiari, Uringu, Kamaroo, Mwathene Dispensary, Kimachia Secondary, Kamaruki, Kagaene Shopping Centre, Kithiri Polytechnic, Kimirii Centre, Mbeu Sub-District Hospital, Kaamu Primary, Kiliati Mixed Secondary, Machangene and nearby customers.
