Babu Owino has revealed that the Kenya Moja movement has changed its name to Kenya Mpya.

Embakasi Member of Parliament Babu Owino has revealed that the Kenya Moja movement has changed its name to Kenya Mpya.

Speaking on Tuesday, October 14, Babu explained that they were forced to change the movement’s name after someone went ahead and registered a political party under the name Kenya Moja.

“We have this coalition called Kenya Mpya. We were initially using the name Kenya Moja, but someone from the government went and registered a party called Kenya Moja.

“So, we had to drop that name, and now it’s called Kenya Mpya,” the ODM MP revealed.

At the same time, Babu said the Kenya Mpya movement was born out of frustration with unfulfilled promises.

He noted that the movement aims to empower young people across the country to take charge of the country’s future

“We formed Kenya Mpya because, as young people, we’ve had enough. We have been oppressed for too long, and citizens have suffered for too long. Our elders have always promised us that we are the leaders of tomorrow, yet they make sure that tomorrow never comes.

“As the youth, we have now awakened and decided that we must change the lives of our parents and fellow Kenyans because we have the power to do so,” Babu added.

The Kenya Mpya faction is made up largely of youthful MPs and Senators who are currently serving in office.

Some of the members include: Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, Kitutu Chache MP Antony Kibagendi, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, and Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo.

On September 4, Babu disclosed that over 70 lawmakers have shown interest in joining the Kenya Mpya movement.

“We already have about 70 members who want to join this group. Some are already in, while others are sending us messages saying they want to become members,” said Babu.

The Embakasi East MP also hinted at the possibility of the Kenya Mpya faction joining forces with the United Opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.

“The bible says in Ecclesiastes 3 that there is a time and a season for everything. When that time comes, we will unite with the United Opposition.

“Right now, we still need to prepare ourselves and set up our base properly so that they can also see we are well organized,” he stated.
