The Judiciary Service Commission (JSC) has shortlisted 35 candidates for the position of Judge of the Court of Appeal.
In a statement on Wednesday, October 22, JSC said it received 94 applications for the 15 judge vacancies it advertised in the appellate court.
The commission shortlisted 35 candidates after reviewing the submissions for completeness and compliance with the advertised requirements.
“At the close of the advertisement on 7th July, 2025, a total of ninety-four applications were received.
“The JSC, having reviewed the applications for completeness and conformity with the requirements as set out in the advertisement, shortlisted thirty-five candidates for the post of Judge of the Court of Appeal,” read the notice.

Renowned lawyer Joseph Katwa Kigen is among the candidates who have been shortlisted for the positions.
Justice Chacha Mwita, IPOA Chairperson Ahmed Issack Hassan, Justice Joseph Kiplagat Sergon, Justice Yuvinalis Maronga Angima, Justice Oscar Amugo Angote, Lady Justice Hedwig Imbosa Ong’udi, Lucy Wanja Julius, Justice Elijah Obaga Ogoti, Daniel Ochieng Ogola, Justice Onesmus Makau Ndumbuthi, and Justice Mathews Nduma Nderi have also been shortlisted.
Others are: Lady Justice Linnet Mumo Ndolo, Justice Samson Odhiambo Okongo, Justice Edward Muthoga Muriithi, Justice William Musya Musyoka, Justice Francis Gikonyo Muthuku, Lady Justice Lucy Mwihaki Njuguna, Lady Justice Lucy Ngima Mbugua, Brown Murungi Kairaria, Justice Robert Kipkoech Limo, Justice Stephen Andersen Radido Okiyo, Lady Justice Rachel Chepkoech Ngetich, and Benard Muteti Mung’ata.
JSC also shortlisted Paul Lilan, Joseph Arimba Kaberia, Migai Akech, Waweru Guandaru Mathenge, Johnson Okoth Okello, Justice Dalmas Omondi Ohungo, Justice Munyao Sila, Protas Saende Gathege, Justice Byram Ongaya, Jacqueline Mbithe Mwinzi Muindi, and Kimwele Muneeni Muneeni.
The commission noted that it will communicate the date the shortlisted candidates will be interviewed.
JSC urged members of the public to provide in writing any information of interest in respect to any of the shortlisted candidates.
“Take note that the Commission may interview any member of the Public who has submitted information on any of the shortlisted candidates, and such information shall be kept confidential," JSC added.
This comes months after JSC advertised 150 vacancies for judges and magistrates in the commission.
In a notice on Monday, June 9, 2025, JSC invited interested and qualified individuals to apply for the jobs.
The vacancies included Judge of the Court of Appeal (15 posts), Judge of the High Court (20 posts), Judge of the Environment and Land Court (10 posts), and Resident Magistrate (60 posts).
Others included Resident Kadhi (5 posts) and Resident Magistrate/Adjudicator of the Small Claims Court (40 posts).
The advertisement followed a gazette notice by Chief Justice Martha Koome declaring vacancies for judges in the Court of Appeal, the High Court, and the Environment and Land Court.
"Pursuant to section 30 of the Judicial Service Act and section 3 Part II of the First Schedule, of the Judicial Service Act, 2011, I Martha Karambu Koome, Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya, for and on behalf of the Judiciary of Kenya, declare vacancies in the Office of Judge of the Court of Appeal of the Republic of Kenya," the notice read.
