The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced the appointment of a Deputy Chairperson and several new members to the Sports Disputes Tribunal.
In a gazette notice, Chief Justice Martha Koome, who also serves as the chairperson of the JSC, revealed the appointment of Allan Mola Owinyi as the Deputy Chairperson of the Sports Disputes Tribunal.
His term is set to run from October 7, 2025, to May 16, 2030.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 55 (3) and 56 of the Sports Act, the Judicial Service Commission appoints Allan Mola Owinyi to be the Deputy Chairperson of the Sports Disputes Tribunal, with effect from the 7th October, 2025, until the 16th May, 2030," the notice read.
A separate notice also outlined the appointment of five members who will serve alongside Owinyi in the tribunal.

The newly appointed members include Eddie Omondi, Victor Obwaya Omwebu, Aleli Peris Mukoko, Nicodemus Kimanthi Musau, and Luke Wamugunda Irungu.
Their appointments take effect from September 15, 2025, for a term of five years.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 55 (2) (b) and (e) and 56 of the Sports Act, the Judicial Service Commission appoints Eddie Omondi, Victor Obwaya Omwebu, Aleli Peris Mukoko, Nicodemus Kimanthi Musau and Luke Wamugunda Irungu to be Members of the Sports Disputes Tribunal, for a term of five (5) years, with effect from the 15th September, 2025," the notice read.
The Sports Disputes Tribunal operates as an independent body mandated to resolve disputes arising among athletes, officials, and sports organizations.
The Tribunal primarily serves as a judicial body that hears and determines disputes related to sports, including conflicts between sports federations or associations and their members, and disputes between athletes and coaches.
It also determines appeals against decisions made by clubs, federations, or disciplinary committees.
The SDT also reviews disciplinary decisions made by sports governing bodies and has the authority to uphold, amend, or overturn such decisions.

Elsewhere, former Nyeri Woman Representative, Priscilla Nyokabi, is among the 100 candidates shortlisted by JSC for appointment as judges of the High Court.
In a statement on Thursday, October 23, the JSC confirmed that it had completed the shortlisting process following a recruitment drive.
The commission revealed that a total of 377 applications were received by the closing date of July 7, 2025, from which 100 candidates were selected for interviews.
"The Commission will communicate the date of the interviews in due course. Members of the public are invited to avail in writing any information of interest in respect to any of the shortlisted candidates.
"Take note that the Commission may interview any member of the Public who has submitted information on any of the shortlisted candidates and such information shall be kept confidential," the commission said.
Other than Nyokabi, other notable candidates include Henry Faraji Chipinde, Patricia Naeku Leparashao, Anne Mary Auma O Kutoyi, Salma Noah Ramadhan, Catherine Akaigwa Kassim, Joseph Kipkoech Biomdo, Judith Chelangat Mutai, Ronald Gordon Rogo, Winnie Narasha Molonko, Ritah Nangila Mukhongo, and Edmond Kiplagat Gichuru.
The list also features well-known judicial officers such as Hon. Esther Kalunde Kimilu, Hon. Yusuf Abdallah Shikanda, Hon. Esther Boke, Hon. David Wanjohi Mburu, Hon. Peter Oduor Ooko, Hon. Harrison Omwima Barasa, Hon. Martha Wanzila Mutuku, Hon. Pamella Achieng Khamoni, and Hon. Anne Wanjiru Mwangi.
Others shortlisted include Hon. Eunice Kagure Nyutu, Hon. Letizia Muthoni Wachira Rwiga, Hon. Mwangi Karimi Mwangi, Hon. Nathan Shiundu Lutta, Brian Pratt Ayodo, Jacqueline Mbithe Mwinzi Muindi, Silviah Kawira Nyaga, Hon. Beatrice Muthoni Kimemia, Hon. Thomas Thyaka Nzyoki, and Hon. Felix Mutinda Kombo.
Also in the pool are Hon. Richard Kipkemoi Koech, Hon. Lucas Onyango Onyina, Michael Odewy Ogallo Sangoro, Hon. James Njuguna Mwaniki, Hon. Alex Kimanzi Ithuku, Hon. Francis Nyungu Kyambia, Hon. Kennedy Lenkamai Kandet, Hon. Joseph Maloba Were, Hon. Dickson Odhiambo Onyango, Hon. Christopher Ligalaba Yalwala, Hon. Hezron Nyaberi Moibi, and Zachary Omwega Gitenya.
The JSC also named Edward Murithi Rinkanya, Hon. Elizabeth Katiwa Usui, Hon. Barbara Achieng Ojoo, Hon. Joyce Mkambe Gandani, Hon. Josephat Burudi Kalo, Hon. Paul Kipkosgei Rotich, Regina Tumaini Wafula, and Hon. Roseline Akinyi Oganyo among the shortlisted.
Completing the diverse list are Hon. Alfred Gethi Kibiru, Hon. Benard Maina Ochoi, Abdi Mohamud Hassan, Hon. Lucy Kathure Mutai, Hon. Evans Keago Hezekiah, Hon. Edinah Ameyo Asachi Nyaloti, Hon. Douglas Nyambane Ogoti, Hon. Samuel Mogaka Mokua, Hon.
