Senate Speaker Amason Kingi's brother, Eng. Michael Thoya Kingi, has been sworn in as a Commissioner of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
In an update on Monday, December 1, Amason said the ceremony took place at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi and was presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
"This morning at the Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi, I witnessed the swearing-in of Eng. Michael Thoya Kingi, as a Commissioner of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), an event that was officiated by Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court Hon Justice Martha Koome," he said.
Amason also highlighted the constitutional foundation of the SRC, noting that its structure and mandate are clearly spelled out in Article 230 of the Constitution.
"Article 230 of our Constitution establishes the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, comprising a Chairperson and twelve (12) members, whose mandate is to set and regularly review remuneration and benefits for all State officers," he stated.

Amason further expressed his confidence in his brother as he assumes the new role, noting that he believes the SRC will continue carrying out its work effectively.
"I wish Hon Kingi well in his new designation, and express utmost confidence that the commission will continue to discharge its constitutional mandate boldly, transparently, and accountably," he concluded.
Michael, who also served as Magarini MP, was appointed to the role by President William Ruto.
The appointment was confirmed in a gazette notice, indicating that Michael will serve as a Member of the Commission for the next six years.
In a statement on Monday, November 17, Michael expressed his gratitude to God, the president, and parliament for the appointment and expressed his readiness to serve the country.
"Grateful to God for the gift of life, President for the appointment and parliament for the approval. Ready to serve my Country in this new capacity," he said.
Michael gratuated a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
His early career saw him work in project supervision roles at firms such as Casuarina Enterprises Ltd and Maritech Engineering Ltd.
Michael later transitioned to public service roles, including serving as a Water Officer at the Coast Development Authority and subsequently holding leadership positions at Kilifi Mariakani Water and Sewerage Company, first as Superintendent and later as Technical & Operations Manager.
Before his entry into elective politics, he served as the Managing Director of Malindi Water and Sewerage Company from 2015 to 2017.
In 2017, Michael was elected as the Member of Parliament for Magarini Constituency under the ODM Party ticket, where he served until 2022.
During his tenure in the National Assembly, he was a member of key committees, including the Public Accounts Committee and the Committee on Implementation.
