Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband to Queen Elizabeth is dead.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the death of Prince Philip on Friday noting that he died at Windsor Castle.
"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle," the statement read.
"The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss. Further announcements will be made in due course," it added.
Reports indicate that flags in the United Kingdom will fly at half-mast to mourn the Duke of Edinburgh.
He was admitted to the hospital for a month where he underwent a procedure for a pre-existing heart condition.
Following his release in March 2020 Buckingham Palace issued a statement saying: "following treatment for an infection and a successful procedure for a pre-existing condition".
It continued: "His Royal Highness wishes to thank all the medical staff who looked after him... and everyone who has sent their good wishes."
His biography reveals the titles and names that the late was given in honour of his position as a member of the Royal Family.
He was named Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich, also known as Philip Mountbatten. His original name is Philip, prince of Greece and Denmark.
He was born on June 10, 1921, at a place called Corfu in Greece. His father was Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark, a son of King George I of the Hellenes. His mother was Princess Alice.
