The Ministry of Education has announced a seven-day window for reviewing placements of Grade 10 learners into senior schools.
In a statement on Sunday, December 21, Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok said the review window will open on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
PS Bitok urged candidates with concerns to contact their Grade 9 schools or the Ministry of Education Sub-County and County offices.
“To address such concerns, the Ministry will open a seven-day review of senior school choices on Tuesday, December 23rd. Candidates are advised to contact their Grade 9 schools or the Ministry of Education Sub-County and County offices to take advantage of this window through their respective heads of institutions.
The review will be guided by an automated system that will match preferences to learners’ performance and the availability of slots in schools. During the review period, incorrect gender entries will also be addressed,” read the statement in part.

The Basic Education PS explained that the earlier placement was conducted using an automated system designed to promote merit, equity, and fairness by considering learners.
Bitok said the Ministry of Education is aware that some parents and candidates are dissatisfied with the placements.
He attributed the concerns to intense competition and limited admission slots in popular schools, miscommunication between parents, learners and school heads during the selection process
“While many learners have been placed in their schools of choice, the Ministry is aware that some parents and candidates have expressed dissatisfaction with the placements.
“This is largely attributable to high competition and limited admission slots in popular schools, misaligned communication between parents, learners, and heads of institutions on selected schools, and variances between selected pathways and assessment outcomes,” Bitok added.
The Ministry of Education released Grade 10 senior school placements for learners who sat the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) on Friday, December 20.
The ministry announced that students can check their senior school placements by sending their KNEC assessment number via SMS to the short code 22263.
Alternatively, they can access the placement results by logging in to the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS) portal at https://selection.education.go.ke/.
The ministry also confirmed that the automated placement system is now fully operational after earlier technical delays that had left many parents frustrated.
