"This order shall apply during the hours of darkness between eight o’clock in the evening and four o’clock in the morning with effect from the 29th March, 2021 and shall remain in effect for a period of sixty days thereof," a gazette notice signed by the CS reads in part.
During this period of time, the CS reiterated that public gatherings remain banned, as well as processions or movement either as an individual or group.
Those exempted are those permitted, in writing, by a police officer in charge of the police in a county or a police officer in charge of the police in a division/sub-county as well as the listed essential service providers. The five counties have continued to record a higher number of Covid-19 cases than other parts of the country.
President Uhuru Kenyatta imposed an 8 pm to 4 am curfew on the five counties while also ordering for cessation of movement in and out of the five counties.
The rest of the country is on a 10 pm to 4 am curfew.
Matiang'i announced that the orders imposed by the Head of State on the five counties will remain in effect till the end of May 2021.
