Jubilee Party Vice chair David Murathe on Thursday snubbed summons to appear before the Public Investments Committee for a probe on the multi-billion Kemsa scandal.
Murathe and two officials from Kilig Limited and Entec Technology were summoned to appear before the committee, but hey did not show up, opting to send affidavits.
In his affidavit, Murathe claimed that he does not own either of the companies, adding that he is neither a director nor a shareholder in any of the mentioned entities.
According to him, he only acted as a signatory to Kilig Limited’s bank account in order to ensure that Entec Technology Limited, the supplier of the PPE kits, would be paid once KEMSA completed the procurement process.

Murathe indicated that immediately Kemsa cancelled its commitment letter to Kilig limited, he ceased being the company’s signatory.
Reacting to Murathe’s affidavit, a section of legislators hit out at the Jubilee party Vice-chair for snubbing their summons, adding that his affidavit provided limited information that was not very helpful to the committee.
“What they have so far written is extremely very shallow and not candid enough to give us valuable information. It would have been worthwhile for them to have appeared before this committee so that we could interrogate them further, ” Wajir East MP Rashid Kassim said.
On his part, Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang said Murathe is a respectable member of society and should appear before the committee to give his side of the story.
“David Murathe was brought for guarantying the process and because he is a senior respectable Kenyan to influence the process this is why we need him because Kenyans want to see this big fish who influenced the payments in KEMSA,” Kajwang said.
The three have been summoned to appear before the committee on April 29, 2021.
