Kenya’s leading telecommunications service provider Safaricom has come under sharp criticism after some of its key services were unavailable on Monday morning.
Safaricom had a scheduled maintenance exercise over the weekend, which many believe could have interfered with its network stability.
In a notice issued last week, Safaricom announced that the maintenance exercise would not affect data, calls or M-Pesa.
“All calls, M-Pesa, internet and data, and SMS services shall remain available for the entire duration of maintenance. The timing of the maintenance activity has been planned to result in the least of inconvenience to our customers,” Safaricom’s statement read in part.
“We are sorry for any inconveniences,” Safaricom added.

However, the maintenance seems to have affected the above mentioned services, as most netizens complained of an outage.
On Twitter, Safaricom has been trending at number one with netizens complaining of poor data connectivity and problems with access to mobile money and the Safaricom app.
