ODM Chairman John Mbadi has weighed in on reports of a looming impeachment of Deputy President William Ruto, noting that neither his party nor the parliamentary leadership has discussed the issue.
Speaking during an interview on Tuesday night, Mbadi noted that while there are numerous grounds to impeach the DP, he does not believe it is the right time for such a move.
According to Mbadi, initiating an impeachment motion against the DP will create a distraction for the BBI process which he says is the key priority now.
He further noted that as things stand, the BBI Bill should be dealt with completely after which other issues can be discussed.

“Grounds for the impeachment of William Ruto are numerous; he has been a candidate for impeachment for a long time. Impeachment is also a political process so it would require political thinking.
“We have not discussed any impeachment motion as a party or as leaders in Parliament. I don't think the people would want a distraction of an impeachment motion at this time. I would advise that we first put on the table the BBI,” Mbadi opined.
Speaking at the same interview, former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo noted that if an impeachment motion is filed against Ruto, it is likely to sail through as the handshake team has sufficient numbers.
“An impeachment against the DP at the moment is likely to sail through but they must have reasons, either you have been convicted of a crime or gross violation of the constitution the third is gross misconduct and that is easy,” he opined.
