Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday visited Nyamira; one week after his initial events in the county were disrupted by police leading to cancellation.

The DP was received by thousands of residents, bringing the entire county to a standstill as many hoped to catch a glimpse of the DP and benefit from his hustler movement goodies.

While making his way to the venue, police officers were seen around his caravan, shielding him from the massive crowd.

Addressing the residents, DP Ruto expressed his gratitude for the support and vowed to continue championing for the rights of the less fortunate in society.

Ruto takes a swipe at BBI

Regarding the Building Bridges Initiative championed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, DP Ruto noted that it as an unnecessary political pursuit.

He said he is only interested in a Constitutional amendment process that has the interest of Kenyans at heart.

According to the DP, BBI is an avenue being used by politicians to create plump positions for themselves.

“As they push to change the Constitution, we are pushing to change the narrative. They want a referendum to add a Prime Minister's and deputy prime minister's position but we are changing the narrative, we want to empower that boda boda operator who is considered a low-class citizen. We are not starting from the top down, we are advocating for the bottom up approach because when we take care of those at the bottom, the hustlers then those at the top will take care of themselves,” Ruto said.

“They should not lie to us that we should always discuss matters of positions, we can as well address issues of the ordinary person. In any case, they are the majority and they are deserving,” he added.
